Use Bactine® MAX Pain Relieving Cleansing Spray or Original First Aid Liquid to help clean away dirt and debris, help prevent skin infection and relieve pain. To stop the bleeding, gently apply pressure using a clean cloth or gauze. You may apply an adhesive bandage to help keep the cut clean and prevent the wound from reopening. Consult your doctor if the wound is deep and may require stitches or if it has been caused by something like glass or a rusty nail and may require a tetanus shot.
Minor burns can occur from touching a hot object. The first step in treating a minor burn is to cool the area right away with cool water or a cool cloth. This helps prevent the skin from continuing to burn. Use Bactine® MAX Pain Relieving Cleansing Spray or Original First Aid Liquid to help prevent skin infection and relieve pain. Do not break any blisters that form as they help to protect the skin as it heals. Consult your doctor if a burn seems severe or you’re not sure.
Too much exposure to the sun can result in painful sunburn. If you get a sunburn take a cool bath or shower. Use Bactine® MAX Pain Relieving Cleaning Spray or Original First Aid Liquid for temporary relief of pain and itching, associated with minor sunburn. You may also want to apply a moisturizing lotion several times a day. Don’t use petroleum jelly or butter, because they can prevent or delay healing. Consult your doctor if your sunburn begins to blister or you experience complications.
If a splinter of wood or other foreign object gets embedded in your skin, wash your hands well. Sterilize a pair of tweezers with alcohol or clean with soap and water, and gently pull out the object. A magnifying glass may help you to see it better. If the object is deeply embedded in your skin carefully loosen the skin that’s around the splinter with a sterile needle then use the tweezers to remove it. What is an antiseptic?
An antiseptic is a chemical when applied to the skin, kills or halts the growth of microorganisms.
Some additional examples of an antiseptic include, soap, iodine, and hydrogen peroxide. The antiseptic in Bactine is benzalkonium chloride.
How does an anesthetic work?
Pain and itching from a skin injury are felt because the nerve cells send a message to the brain that something hurts or itches.
A local anesthetic works to interfere with the transmission of nerve impulses at the site of application.
How do I use Bactine? (What is the purpose of the product? i.e. indications for use)
Bactine can help protect you and your family from minor skin infections. It also temporarily relieves pain & itching from minor cuts, scrapes and burns.
For Minor Cuts and Scrapes:
- Adults and children 2 years and older, clean the affected area; spray a small amount on the area 1-3 times daily; may be covered with a sterile bandage (let dry first).
- Children under 2 years ask a doctor.
Can I use on body piercing?
We cannot recommend that Bactine be used for this purpose since body piercings are considered puncture wounds. Consumers should consult their doctor for treatment of such wounds.
Can the Bactine bottles be recycled?
Yes. They are #2 code HDPE (High Density Polyethylene). The caps are currently not recyclable.
How do I open the cap on the Spray bottle?
- Push in tab on side of cap.
- Turn “ridged” top counterclockwise.
Why are there child resistant caps?
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) requires the use of child resistant caps on all products that contain more than 5.0 mg. of lidocaine.
